Title DriDanube - Drought Risk in the Danube region
Abstract The main objective of the DriDanube project is to increase the capacity of the Danube region to manage drought related risks. The project aims at helping all stakeholders involved in drought management to improve the drought emergency response and prepare better for the next drought. These goals will be achieved by producing the new monitoring tools and the strategy for drought risk assessment.
Special goals are:
  1. Develop Drought User Service, a web based platform, at which the common methodology for drought risk assessment and methodology for impacts assessment and forecast will be implemented. The service will integrate all the available data, including large volume of the most recent remote sensing products,
  2. Harmonization of the currently heterogeneous methodologies for risk and impact assessments, based on the existing achievements in participating countries and on EU guidelines in the frame of the Civil Protection Mechanism.
  3. Preparation of the DRiDanube Strategy which will improve decision-making process in all parts of the drought management cycle (monitoring-impact assessment-response-recovery-preparedness) and strengthen capacities of the stakeholders (policy, professional, end users) at different levels.

The role of the DHMZ as a partner in the project is to actively participate in achieving all the goals of the project, as well as in educating stakeholders and decision makers on the drought related risks in the Danube region. During the project DHMZ will organize three national briefing and end user seminars that will inform and educate all target groups (end-users, policy makers and others) on the project tools. Through different communication activities the knowledge and understanding of the Drought User Service will be increased and the specific needs of the target groups will be taken into account from the very beginning of the project.
