Air temperature anomalies for Croatia in October 2018

The analysis of air temperature anomalies for October 2018 reveals that the average monthly air temperature was above the multi-annual average (1961 - 1990). Corresponding air temperature anomalies were within the range from 1.8 °C to 3.1 °C.

Absolute maximum air temperature in October 2018 were mainly above the corresponding average (1961 - 1990) and anomalies were within the range from -1.3 °C to 1.8 °C. A comparison with the available data series of analyzed stations (Table 1) reveals that in October 2018 there were no maximum air temperatures exceeding the absolute maximum on record.

Absolute minimum air temperature in October 2018 were above the corresponding average (1961 - 1990) at the all analyzed stations and anomalies were within the range from 2.3 °C to 4.6 °C. A comparison with the available data series of analyzed stations (Table 2) reveals that in October 2018 there were no minimum air temperatures below the absolute minimum on record.

According to percentile ranks and classification ratings, thermal conditions in Croatia for October 2018 fall in the following categories: extremely warm (the wider area of Zagreb and Rijeka), warm (part of Eastern Croatia, Zavižan and the wider areas of the towns of Ogulin and Pazin) and very warm (the rest of Croatia).


Precipitation amounts for Croatia in October 2018

An analysis of the precipitation amounts for October 2018 expressed as percentages (%) of 1961 - 1990 average, shows that precipitation amounts were mainly below the mentioned average. A comparison with the multi-annual average reveals that corresponding precipitation amounts for October 2018 were within the range of 12 % - 228 % of the mentioned average for this month. In October 2018, the maximum daily precipitation amount observed at 7 a.m. (CET) at the main meteorological station Dubrovnik was 259.2 mm (2 October 2018), exceeded the highest daily precipitation amount on record for Dubrovnik (154.8 mm, 13 October 2002).

According to percentile ranks and classification ratings, the precipitation amounts for October 2018 have been described by following categories: very wet (the wider area of the town of Dubrovnik), wet (part of the Northern and Southern Adriatic), dry (part of Northern and Eastern Croatia as well as part of the Southern Adriatic), very dry (the wider area of the town of Slavonski Brod) and normal (the rest of Croatia).
